a study of the outcome renal transplantation from cadaver, living-related donors and living unrelated donors
Authors
abstract
introduction although renal transplantation from cadaver is common, living donors continue to be an important source of transplanted kidneys. recipients of living-donor kidneys demonstrate improved graft survival. in this study, we evaluated the outcomes of renal transplantation from cadaver, related donors and unrelated donors in isfahan. methods we evaluated all of the patients who underwent kidney transplantation in hospitals affiliated to isfahan university of medical sciences in 2002. we assessed complications including hypertension, urinary tract infection, fever, transplant rejection, urinary leak, renal failure, renal vessels thrombosis and urinary tract obstruction. donors (living related, living unrelated, cadaver) were registered and complications were compared in the three groups. chi-square and fisher exact tests were used for statistical analysis. results one-hundred patients were evaluated (22 had received kidneys from cadaver, 10 from living related donors, and 68 from living unrelated donors). transplant rejection was most common in recipients of kidneys from living unrelated donors (49.7%, p=0.02). renal failure was most common in recipients of kidneys from cadaver (68%, p=0.02), urinary infection was most common in recipients of kidneys from living unrelated donors (26%, p=0.04). overall, complications were most common in patients who had received kidneys from cadaver (81%, p=0.04). conclusions given the high transplant rejection rate in recipients of kidneys from living unrelated donors, and the complications observed in recipients of kidneys from cadaver, kidney transplant from living related donors seems to be the most favorable option. keywords kidney transplantation, complication, outcome.

Report of 200 Renal Transplantations from Living Donors
Two hundred cases of renal transplantation from living donors are reported from Shahid Hashemi Nejad Medical Center in Iran. There were 127 male and 73 female patients with 67% in the third and fourth decade of life. All patients received grafts from living donors with 114 cases of HLA haploidentical, 55 cases of HLA identical matches and 24 unrelated donors. One year patient and graft survival...
full textRenal Transplantation from Elderly Living Donors
Acceptance of elderly living kidney donors remains controversial due to the higher incidence of comorbidity and greater risk of postoperative complications. This is a review of publications in the English language between 2000 and 2013 about renal transplantation from elderly living donors to determine trends and effects of donation, and the outcomes of such transplantation. The last decade wit...

full textKidney Transplantation from Living-Unrelated and Elderly Living- Related Donors: Analysis of 5 Years Graft Survival and Outcome
Introduction. The shortage of kidney availability has increased utilization of other donor categories. The aim of our study was to compare the graft survival and outcome between living-unrelated donors (LURD) and elderly living related donors (LRD). Methods. Fifteen LURD kidney transplanted patients in the period between 2000 and 2006, and 18 randomly selected recipients from elderly LRD (>60 y...
full textAortic stiffness, living donors, and renal transplantation.
In subjects with renal disease, reduced renal function and increased arterial stiffness are significantly associated in cross-sectional studies. The relationship is independent of age, blood pressure (BP), and atherosclerosis. Because both variables are independent predictors of cardiovascular risk, time-dependent relationships between them are important to determine. Aortic pulse wave velocity...
full textKidney transplantation from related and unrelated living donors in a single German centre.
BACKGROUND Organ transplantation began in 1954 with living related donation (LRD). Because of organ shortage from cadavers, unrelated kidney donation (LURD) has been proposed and shown to have good results despite complete HLA mismatching. This study aims to look at differences and similarities comparing LRD and LURD performed in our centre since the implementation of the German transplant law ...
